We’re overcrowded,
we’ve no room,
move over,
skedaddle,
shove over,
split,
quit!
That spot
there is bare,
lay your root
in that stony crack,
it’ll be fun
it’ll have what we lack.
And don’t come back.

Notes: This is a persona poem, with a recent photo as inspiration. Laura Shovan, author of the delightful new novel-in-verse, The Last Fifth Grade at Emerson Elementary, issued the challenge on Today’s Little Ditty.
Happy Poetry Friday and Hello Weekend, I see you hiding there! Thanks to Margaret at Reflections at the Teche for hosting this week down on Louisiana’s Bayou Teche.
Very cute. Still, awfully pretty flowers.

Thanks, Robin. 🙂 I’m afraid I was thinking of my ancestors, suggesting that emigrating was a wonderful idea.

(So that’s how plants end up growing in sidewalk cracks!) For such a gentle-looking mauve plant, your flower persona has a lot of gumption.

Find a new home with your rhizome…and results will be just “vine”. 😀

BUT THEY ARE STILL CONNECTED…BY A RHIZOME–ACTUALLY A MODIFIED STEM FROM WHICH ROOTS, LEAVES AND FLOWERS APPEAR IN AN APPROPRIATE SPOT! 😀

Are rhizome and RNA the same? 😉

NOPE! R.N.A. is genetic material that helps copy DNA. A rhizome is a horizontal stem that can have several plants on it, all connected. Think of Morning Glories—the vine part is a rhizome.

Sorry, I was joking. I’m a gardener so I can cut a rhizome with the best of them. I was being too subtle. Forget it. 🙂

I like your persona poem, Brenda. The title aligns quite nicely with the photo and words. Do you want this one to go into Spring’s Seeds? Let me know.

I don’t know if I have time to learn a new software between now and the 31st. So many projects, so little time. I’ll see if I can manage to combine the words and photo somehow… If not, you have my Cultivar. XOXO

Such a funny little poem, Brenda! It reminds me of the Fourth of July. You’d think folks would realize that there’s a good view of the fireworks wherever you are in the field. Well done on TWO persona poems… and making them so different, too!
