Hold Fast to Dreams

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams fade
Life is a silent symphony
That cannot be played.

Notes: This is my first post inspired by this long summer spent at home. Reflecting on great American artists, poets and thinkers in between painting my garage and laundry room, clearing out my closet and attic, and keeping my family in food and good health.

Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly.

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow.

Langston Hughes (the poem entitled Dreams)

Writing tip: Practice techniques used by people in your genre, putting your own spin on poetic structures or metaphors used. It can bring another layer of expertise to your writing, but always give credit and link to your source of inspiration if possible.

  2. I’ve always loved the inspiring Hughes’ poem and enjoy how you created your own spin on it. It sure sounds like your summer has been busy. You’re reminding me about many unstarted sorting, cleaning, and painting projects around my house!
