Magic Wand

White, fluffy Easter Bunny

Too-large slippers clomp
down the stairs.
Giggles and gasps
harmonize with crinkling
jelly bean bags and
foil-wrapped bunnies.
The loud quiet
lifts me like a spell cast
by the magic wand of
childhood.

Notes: Happy Easter! This poem was partly inspired by a few lines of Marjory Wentworth’s where simple things become “magic. It’s the way/ your pen becomes a wand in your hand….” From How Billy Collins Writes a Poem in Out of Wonder: Poems Celebrating Poets by Kwame Alexander with Chris Colderley and Marjory Wentworth, illustrated by Ekua Holmes, Candlewick Press, 2017.

Happy Poetry Friday and thanks to Heidi at My Juicy Little Universe for hosting!

  1. That loud quiet…..oh, you’ve brought up some sharp memories. Thank you. I’m trying to keep childhood alive in my house….but, my teens really don’t care about finding eggs or foil wrapped bunnies. It’s always a treat to bump into someone that has the wonder of the memories that I do. Thanks for the visit today!

  2. So sweet. Childhood magic. Happy Easter to you. If the weather permits our grandkids will be enjoying the family Easter egg hunt after we have birthday cake for three grandsons who had birthdays this past week.
