Gray Magic

Stone Wall with phlox overhanging

Tinge of gray
on evergreen,
sparkly spray,
icy and clean,
fairy frost,
silver dance.
Summer’s lost
in hoary trance.
Winter sleep
casts its spell.
Blankets deep,
warm us well.

Cold has tinged New England with silver. It’s the time of year to burrow under blankets or duvet. I hope you’re warm and cozy. My favorite thing to do this time of year is sleep late. What’s yours?

Happy Poetry Friday to all kid litters! Thanks to Tabatha Yeatts for hosting this week at the Opposite of Indifference. Thanks for reminding us that the “opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it’s indifference.” ~ Elie Wiesel

  1. I was just thinking , I wonder what these plants would think if they knew they inspired so much lovely poetry about them?! Blushing maybe?! 😉 That’s a very attractive evergreen.

I’m not sure what my favourite thing to do in winter is – hibernate – maybe, eat lots of warm soup, and most definitely sleep in. Easier to do when you live on your own. Although I do get woken quite early sometimes with next doors baby – 6am on the dot – cries loudly – “Is it time to get up yet?!!” 😀

    • Warm soup in winter, that’s a favorite of ours, too. I made a cream of broccoli cheddar that was delicious. But my favorite is sausage, kale and tomato. Yum. As for your wee neighbor, s/he will grow up. For the parent, it happens so fast, but I imagine the whole thing is much longer from the other side of the wall. Thanks for stopping by! I always enjoy your comments.

  2. Truthfully, I can’t say which I love more–the photo or the poem. The photo is a poem in itself, and the poem conjures up a series of word photos. Thank you for both! God bless you! Keep warm!

  3. I like how the gray is tinged with evergreen, while water of gray may have a cobalt blue tint. The winter season makes me lazy, more and more. So sleeping in occurs on Saturday and Sunday, Brenda. I used to have a guy friend who would pick me up and off we would go on “day trips,” tooling around the winter countryside. He is still a friend but has a girlfriend who is likely to head out with him. I am happy for his relationship but miss the adventures. I was not yet a blogger but have 8 or so albums and a blue jean jacket with patches I sewed on the back. Patches of memories of places I have been from 2009 until 2013. Have a wonderful and cozy weekend, Brenda and family!
The act of making a hot cup of coffee, flavored cream or milk with sugar or syrup. Mmm-m! Then, lounging fleece pants with a great book completes my idea of a perfect winter’s morning. Cocoa or tea come in second place to my desire for coffee, though. . .
