American Lady Butterfly

Orange Butterfly

I called for you, and you came!
Magic is in the air, holding you aloft,
Magic is in the color of your wings
And your graceful dancing flight.
You pause and look at me as intensely
As I look at you, my American Lady.

Note: I published a post recently called Butterflies Wanted, and then right afterwards, I was delighted to see an American Lady butterfly three or four times. This once, she even let me have a photograph. Although I still have not seen a Monarch, I feel quite happy with my Lady.

  1. So, butterflies hear you?! That’s a very magical moment! I’ve never heard of an American Lady butterfly before. That must be my education for the day – new butterfly! There are sooo many though, and I’m no butterfly expert, I don’t know how some butterfly enthusiasts hold all that information in their heads! 🙂

    • I look it up. 🙂 I read about a hickory tussock caterpillar recently. I saw one at my dad’s house. I had never seen one before in my life. I hope I always get to see new things and learn about them. It makes life more fun. 🙂

  2. She is quite beautiful, in her golden amber coloring and does a great job of substituting for the wonderful Monarch butterfly. American Beauty, you are so wondrous in your amber and black ‘tiger waves.’ (A feeble attempt to do a word play on amber waves of grain… smiles!) Hope you and your family are having a great weekend, Brenda!
Did I tell you that my oldest daughter taught me a neat and easy way to make ‘transportable’ and less messy S’mores? I mentioned this on someone’s blog recently. The Cub Scouts in younger grades sometimes squeeze either the chocolate bar or the marshmallows out of the ‘sandwich’ of regular S’mores. This has brought tears since the items fall into the dirt. So, they bought milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips, waffle cones, and marshmallows. When the boys roast the marshmallows they are placed on top of the chocolate chips in the cones. This is still sticky and warm, melting the marshmallows. The boys then are suggested to eat the cone (which tastes a little like graham crackers) down to the chips… They are also the ones who introduced me to ‘walking tacos’ which our YMCA pool snack bar also makes. (Make taco meat on the fire in a big iron pan, or bring it pre-cooked, seasoned and warm it in a pot over a fire. Then put a big spoon of this into each of those Dorito or Frito bags, with a sprinkle of tomatoes and cheese, this is nice with a spoon to eat. )
