Heart of Hearts

Summer is an herbalist and ethnobotanist, and a peace lover of fairies and forests. I hope you enjoy her whimsy here. Warmly, Brenda

Some of us have Hearts inside of us, OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAand some have Hearts outside of us. I am a peculiar one, I was born with a beautiful large heart inside, and stamped on the outside near my chest area, God stamped me with a second Heart, a Red Heart Birthmark!

Why and wherefore these marvelous, these beautiful happenings? I’ve always pondered.

In my pondering, in Outside Heart so Large, so Big, and so Magnificent, I have been found playing and conversing with the Winged Fairies today. For the Fairies need to rest their busy wings here and there, and clutch a home polished Moonstone to take a sip of pure, cool water.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA This allows them the little rest needed before playing and mixing more pollen, kissing the herbs, the plants of Heart Garden.

It is always lovely to give little Winged Beings a place to hide, rest, eat and drink, put…

Summer has arrived in New England!

April Fools! We had hail, sleet and rain yesterday: what the weather professionals call a “wintry mix.” I prefer my wintery mix to include a fire in the fireplace, hot chocolate, a foot rub and my dinner delivered by the culinarily gifted. I wonder if that will ever happen. At least the pizza place delivers. 🙂

Here are some brave early flowers, just poking up their heads and drinking some rain. The oak trees have started dropping leaves, and new green leaves are sure to be along any day. Warmth and sunlight are predicted, but who knows if the weather professions are just joking or serious.

Have a fun First!

Warmly, Brenda

Note: For any not familiar with the U.S.A. April First tradition, I will explain. The goal is to get someone to believe something diabolical, and wait for them to interject: “What!?!” Then you yell “April Fool’s!!” And laugh a lot while they groan.

The Heart of a Garden Haibun

Used with permission of Sally – My Beautiful Things

I always leave part of my heart in my garden as the yellow leaves drift slowly down, followed by the snow. My summer heart hibernates there, with the bulbs and the frogs, below the frost line. I don’t have the heart to clear all the leaves away, it’s too like wiping the tears of the tree.

I prefer to leave them where they fall in the flower beds, fertilizer and insulation against the winter’s fury. On the grass, I rake them all into a big pile, and let the kids jump in. We toss up the leaves in fistfuls, and they fall in our hair. We make leaf angels, before we bag them all.

My summer heart is there still in my garden, slumbering, under the snow forts, the snowmen and beyond the snow angel farms. Wrapped closely with leaves, dreaming of sunshine and warm days.

Summer suspended

A delightful riff on my autumnal music, here is the fairy of disenchantment’s magical take on fall. 🙂 Hugs all around, Brenda

Hail to Autumn, Summers Gone.

Here’s a great homage to autumn, full of wonderful details and a joyful spirit. I hope you like it as much as I did! Have a great week! Brenda

And gently as the sun goes down

The smoke from bonfires all around.

The hedgehog and the squirrel gone to ground

Grandpa shows the lad the acorns and pine combs he has found.

Twirls of mist at morn and dusk chill the bones

Lights on for breakfast and for tea  in cozy looking homes.

The leaves swirl and dance, children curled up by the fire their noses in tombs.

Fairies dancing in the fire glad they are not outside, it’s getting chilly for the garden gnomes.

The grass is sodden and the  flowers in the garden droop and bend

Fathers and sons bonfires build and another summer is at an end .

All Souls and Halloween are in view lots of spooky things to do for Vlad and his friends.

Frosts and fog sweep and unfurl through the streets across the fields , down to the river and around the…

Dragonfly Dances in Three Haiku

IMG_5851

Dragonfly dances;
Rainbow wings, shining, flashing,
Magic spins aloft.

Last will come winter
Leaving shadows, memories
Of summer soaring.

Never forgotten
Is the dance of the fairy
In glen, fen and den.
