A Warning

DSC02604

I’ve been channeling my inner crone since my surgery. I quite like her spunk. She reminds me of Warning, a poem by Jenny Joseph:

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn’t go, and doesn’t suit me. Continue reading

Greening glade
seems still and quiet,
but it’s a magic circle
where birds sing

Riddle Reader Beware

If looks can kill,
this plant wouldn’t,
although, it’s bold, rash
and may drive riddle
readers mad. Continue reading

Happy July 4th!

Happy Red, White and Blue from the flowers!
Happy Poetry Friday!
Here is a poem of joy for you:

My Heart Leaps Up

My heart leaps up when I behold
A rainbow in the sky:
So was it when my life began;
So is it now I am a man;
So be it when I shall grow old,
Or let me die!
Read the rest here.

 — William Wordsworth

May you experience the joy and magic of being with family.

Thanks to Tabatha Yeatts for hosting his week!
Stop by and read more poetry if you have time.

Doorway to Spring

Spring woods through the framing of a divided tree

Glimpses of green

Pause

Fritillary butterfly with black stripes and white spots

A moment to test the air,
pause and consider,
plan where to go next.
Is that a text? Dang!
Email skirmish,
phone rings, text again.

Lune a Lark

Tiger Striped Longwing Heliconius ismenius

butterfly spreads wings
a lark sings
oh, the joy spring brings

Copyright 2016 Brenda Davis Harsham

Note: This is my first attempt at a lune, and I was in a rhyming mood. A lune is a haiku variant with syllable count of 5-3-5 instead of the usual 7-5-7. Morgan wrote a magical one. I know I saw one a few weeks ago on Poetry Friday, but then I lost track of who’d written it. If it was you, let me know, and I’d be happy to link up.

Thanks to Michelle Heidenrich Barnes, a prolific poet and champion of poetry, at Today’s Little Ditty for hosting Poetry Friday.

Poetry Friday with kids

The butterfly is a Tiger-Striped Longwing (Heliconius ismehius). The photo was taken at the Boston Museum of Science’s Butterfly Garden.

Echos

New spring leaves

Anyone who falters to a stop,
mid breath, and
lets her words breathe,
then echo,
then die,
is a poet.
