The very best place to be
when life is difficult for me
is a hop atop Toad’s wild ride,

Pink and White Double Columbine

Rosy-hued curls, arranged in whirls,
remind me of a clock, stopped.

The minute hand is stuck at twelve.
The hour hand spins too fast to see. Continue reading

Winter Wonderland

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:
Ever drifting down the stream-
Lingering in the golden gleam-
Life, what is it but a dream?

Lewis Carroll

Snow on yew

Alice frosts pink fairy cakes
And carries them on amber platters
To the party in the tippy-top of yews.
Icing sparkles with snowflakes:
Tea party treats for mad hatters.
Alice pours tea and lets guests choose.
The Red Queen chases drakes.
Feathers fall amid snowy spatters.
The Cheshire Cat grins and chews.
White Rabbit calls “Land sakes!”
The March Hare nods and natters.
Not a few party guests snooze.

Note: In addition to getting the holidays in hand, I have a new project. I am now offering Fine Nature Art prints for sale on Society 6. Your purchase would help support Friendly Fairy Tales.

Have a magical weekend!

To All in Pain Everywhere and Those in Sympathy

So many people are in pain, deep in their quiet lives. So many of us know people we love who are in pain. This poem and these flowers from my walk are a trifle, a brief balm, that cannot cure but are given in the hope that pain can ease for a few moments. I will be taking off a week to rest and renew with my family, and in the meantime, I leave you my love and caring, especially to all the children who skin their knees, who bang their heads, who hear harsh words or who suffer even worse than that. Take care of our children everywhere, inside us and out.

Through the Looking Glass

by Lewis Carroll (1872)

Child of pure, unclouded brow
And dreaming eyes of wonder!
Though time be fleet and
I and thou
Are half a life asunder,
Thy loving smile will surely hail
The love-gift of a fairy tale.
