Long Laughs
Smiling trees, hiking, campsite, bonfire.
Night falls with a cold shower of tasks,
cooking, place setting, finding, cleaning,
while fireflies flicker in darkening trees. Continue reading

Winter Joy
Snow
Flakes fall
On Rhodie,
Making leaves droop.
Pulse slows, goes dormant,
Warm heart retreats in,
Waiting for summer thaw.
Sees children building snowmen:
Hears laughter bloom like spring time.
Small girl shrieks as boots fill with snow.
An icy silence falls as doors slam.
The snowman’s crooked smile: winter joy.

Waiting Flowers
On this rainy day,
Cold damp enters the stem,
Stiffening the buds.
Red veins dry to yellow.
Petals close tightly,
Waiting for the sun.
Waiting for the bees.
Waiting for the children.
Full Bloom Tanka
crocus embracing,
offering nectar to bees
tickling, tiny feet
petals dancing with laughter
honey blossoms with flavor

Note: Tanka is defined in Oak Leak Tanka. Please feel free to add your haiku or tanka here, if you are moved to join in. 🙂 In the past, Japanese poets would alternative haiku (3 lines, 5/7/5 syllables) with two 7/7 lines, playing off each other’s work. It’s fun, if you want to try.
