doubtless Dubliners
take in stride their standing stones,
but not I
Copyright 2022 Brenda Davis Harsham
Notes: The photograph was taken at Sean Moore Park’s James Joyce monument, between Ringsend and Sandymount strand, Dublin. The stone aligns with the rising of the sun on the shortest day of the year. Like the wildflowers at the base, I wanted to plant myself at the standing stone. Unlike the wildflowers, I’m unrooted. Far from the Irish Sea, my trip is done — I’m home again. Another continent. Across the Atlantic. I’ll likely never see the shortest day dawn at An Gallán Gréine, the “Sun Stone.”
When I die Dublin will be written in my heart.

💜💜💜 I think my ancestors were quiet, country folk, but I’m not really sure.

Thanks, Derrick! So many moving moments on my two-week trip. I hope I manage to put some of them up.
