Frozen Trickle

Ice crusts a narrow wet channel

maverick trickle,
still, icy rivulet takes
the path less traveled

nothing stands in water’s way
nature’s music, andante

Copyright 2016 Brenda Davis Harsham

Notes: Andante (pronounced on-don-tay) means music played in a moderately slow tempo. The poetry form is a tanka, which is a haiku followed by a two line stanza. In tankas, to vastly oversimplify, each line has maximum syllable counts of 5-7-5 then 7-7. In the third line, I refer to Robert Frost’s famous poem, The Road Not Taken, not for the first time.

Happy 2017. I hope you are having a magical New Year so far. I took a long woodsy hike, and I didn’t fall on the sheets of ice. Yay!

  1. If your picture is current you have WAY less snow than we do! I love anything to do with water – and it’s a lovely poem, complete with a nod to Robert Frost.

Happy New Year and all the best to you for 2017.
