Time to Fold

img_5398

The first sparkling flakes
zip, zig and zag before landing
with soft velvet slippers
atop the last pink flowers,
a’drowse in the fading light.

“Is it time?” sigh the flowers.
“It’s time,” nod the clouds.

The first few flakes
melt, and more follow,
spiraling silently,
a sugar plum ballet
of six-sided crystals.

“Is it time?” sigh the flowers.
“It’s time,” nod the clouds.

Time to fold,
time to fall,
time to follow
the leaves toward the
first dance of winter.

Notes: Nearly winter now, the solstice is a few days away. Time to fold away our autumn thoughts and think wintry ones here, in this hemisphere. For those of you mid-spring, I think of you and appreciate your photos in the blogosphere. Have a magical week this dwindling December day!

  2. This stanza dances delicately on my tongue, “spiraling silently,
    a sugar plum ballet
    of six-sided crystals.”

I love how you’ve taken me to the land of snow. We get cold here in south Louisiana, but rare snow. I have to experience it through images and poems. Thanks.
