Strawberry Patch

IMG_3275

Leaves of three and
white petals
foretell the fruit.
Strawberries
transform
sunshine into
luscious, spotted,
red perfection,
bursting wet
sweet-sour splendor
into my mouth,
when the squirrels,
rabbits, chipmunks
or birds don’t get
there first.
Finding empty stems.

That’s the worst.

Note: I planted all weekend: kale, lettuce, tomatoes, rosemary, Thai basil, Italian basil, begonias, geraniums, petunias and more. The ground was powdery dry all the way down. Yay for the rain!

  1. Anticipation of the fruit the plants will bear, then sorry to hear of disappointments, Brenda. I am not sure how we managed to not have our strawberries eaten but I do remember there is something to put around the plants? Soap? Marigolds? 🙂
