I have seen from my window
the fiesta of sunset in the distant mountain tops.
Sometimes a piece of sun
burned like a coin in my hand.
— Pablo Neruda, from Clenched Soul
Black-fingered trees
Yearn to touch the sky’s palette
Aglow with sunset
Icy winter dormancy
Kindled by sunset passion
This Tanka poem was inspired by Valentine’s Day, sunsets and Poetry Friday, this week hosted by Merely Day by Day. Happy Valentine’s Day!
“Sometimes a piece of sun
burned like a coin in my hand”…
No wonder why Pablo Neruda won the Nobel Prize 🙂
Excellent share, Bren… Happy week to you! Aquileana 😀

I love your photo, I have taken almost identical to this, Brenda! The same flaming sun is shining on you, as upon my area of the country. I love the Pablo Neruda quotation. I have enjoyed his poetry for many years, first from my Mom’s Spanish practicing with us, along with my own Spanish teacher, Senor Donaldson reading aloud to us. The photo suited the verses.

Thanks, it was so glorious in person. The sunset made all the rest of the world so dim and unnoticeable. I’m glad to think you shared the same sunset. 🙂 I wish putting pictures up was possible for you. Maybe one day.
