Nice photo. Fun poem. The title made me think about Candy Stripers. When I was a kid in the hospital for knee surgery in the late 1960’s, the young women who helped the nurses wore red or pink and white striped uniforms, and they were called Candy Stripers.

I looked up Candy Strippers. I had a friend who was one, and she went on to become a nurse. I wanted to fit that in the poem somewhere in memory of her, but the title was the most I could manage. So happy you picked up on it.

I believe many a candy striper went on to become a nurse. I guess the equivalent is nursing assistant these days.

It was a good name, but I remember controversy about boys wanting to do it…

Didn’t know about the boy controversy. When I was having all my adolescent medical issues in the late 1960’s all the nurses were women.

Yes, it used to be more divided. Still mostly women.
