Happy Mothering Day

Yellow and pink columbine flowers

Even Mother’s Day
is a mothering day.
A day of hair braiding,
breakfast sharing,
paper crane folding,
kisses for skinned knees,
poems found in trees,
wild turkey chasing,
fiddle and cello playing,
flowered dress wearing,
candle-lit dinner sharing
and hugs before bed.
Each moment is saved
in a jar like fireflies,
blinking and bright,
and remembered
night after night.

Notes: This Mother’s Day, May 14, my two boys will be playing Vivaldi for me. My daughter and I will wear flowered dresses. We will have our ups and our downs, and I will relish every one. I hope you have a wonderful Mother’s Day however you celebrate, by remembering your mom, by being with your mom (if you are that lucky!) or by being a mom.
