To my lawn chair in April

April sunshine warms,
waking bulbs from their long sleep,
bringing back robins

playgrounds hold laughing children,
a lawn chair is all I need

Notes: The first green shoots have broken the soil, shaken off the mulch, and thick hyacinths peep between the leaves. A few more weeks, and the daffodils will be dancing. For now, feeling the sun on my skin is enough. Is it spring where you live?

For you, another poem about April by Langston Hughes:

April Rain Song

Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby

The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night

And I love the rain.
