under the glass sky
trembling like butterfly wings,
thousands of orchids

Notes: Sharing some blooms in appreciation for US Mother’s Day — thank you to all the mothers and those who love them. Families are our strength, and mothers are the glue that bind our families together.
I’m also grateful I caught the orchids on my April visit to Washington DC. Even though the US Botanical Garden‘s 29th annual orchid exhibit was ending, the blooms were undiminished. Thank you to the Architect of the Capital and the staff — horticulturists, ecologists, botanists, curators, educators, landscape architects, craftspeople, donors and volunteers — your hard work shows. I enjoyed my visit! (I’m also grateful to my family who were patient with my taking 100 photographs.)
We may be enduring divisive times, but I’m proud that the US supports science, art, conservation, and nature. Not only does the US Federal government test drugs, inspect food, and staff our wild parklands, but it also manages an outstanding greenhouse.
And thanks to Gigi, who also loves gardens, wildlife and conservation and shared a wonderful Horticulture TED talk.
Where would we be without nature to remind us of beauty, love, and good feelings?

So true. Being too much in our own minds isn’t good.

Thank you for the “shout out,” and it was such a wonderful talk. My yard used to be wild and for all the birds and bugs, but poison ivy moved in and boy I almost ended up in the hospital, so I had to have everything cut down. I’m going to begin again, in a small area and let it go. Watching for the poison ivy which seems to have moved into our area a couple of years ago. And mothers/women are the glue that holds the world together. We can’t ever forget that. Thank you for this lovely post. ❤️

Poison ivy moved in! That is a definite downside of letting it go wild that never occurred to me. I’m trying to plant native plants but poison ivy isn’t on the list!

How nice to be reading your poems again 🙂 This photo looks like it was taken in the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Such an amazing place!

Yes, it does look a bit like the central court of the Isabella Stewart Gardner. It was the US Botanical garden in DC, though.
