Embracing our Beginnings

a rose, bud to bloom,
embraces its beginning
as it unfolds

Notes: Even as we bloom and grow, we retain the imperceptible shape of our beginnings. Today I’m appreciating each person I’ve known, each of whom left their traces on my life.

Everything we encounter leaves traces behind.
Everything contributes imperceptibly to our education.
— A translation from Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s “Wilhelm Meisters Lehrjahre”
(original lines in German, published in 1795: Alles, was uns begegnet, läßt Spuren zurück. Alles trägt unmerklich zu unserer Bildung bei.)

When we fully embrace this idea, we understand that even sadness or regret have made us who we are. We can treasure the heaviness of them. Those who we’ve lost are still with us.

What or who are you appreciating?
