Snap like a Dragon

IMG_1724

When autumn rain pounds
and frost wilts the stems,
I want to snap like a dragon,
but I hold up my head
and dream like a flower.

Notes: Snapdragons are fascinating flowers. I used to snap them as a child, yanking down their beards to have them snap back into place. These days, I just snap pictures. This one is from summer, but I can’t keep autumn out of my poem, now that daylight is short and the weather has turned cold. No time for more chat, as I have to revise a story before sprinting to my car and driving to the office.

  1. Teehee. We are in the middle of a spring storm which just happened to snap off one of my beautiful snapdragon stems. I was able to rescue it and place it in a vase where it is giving us all much pleasure. Snapdragons are lovely, as is your poem.
