Beauty Shines

IMG_0018

Torn and nibbled,
not one undamaged leaf remains.
Frost-rimed in the morning,
and then rain-drenched all day.
Beset, bewildered and bedraggled,
yet they shine.
Inner beauty shines.

Paris, you shine. Nothing anyone does can take that from you. From your diversity to your bridges, churches, parks, islands, to your museums divine, you shine. Vive la France!!

  1. I relate to those leaves – have been feeling a lot like that lately myself. 😦 The stuffing gets knocked out sometimes, but if there is real inner beauty, lasting beauty, it does tend to find a way. I hope the people of Paris can recover from their ordeal, such a lovely place too. Not the kind of country we expect to hear that kind of tragedy arising. Yes…love the quote, couldn’t be more true!!

    • I have a 14 year old boy who doesn’t want to do his homework, and I am feeling like those leaves today myself. It’s the nature of people to lay aside their sadness over larger tragedies and focus on their own personal ones. I have hopes for peace and joy, arising from the ashes. Hope is the phoenix, always rising. XOXO

  2. Here too!!my son tells me his apple trees still have leaves though…(sigh) the crabapple tree near my home has no more leaves. The rain seems to make it final and yet it makes all shine as well as the leaves on the ground. I love your poem, it shows there is always beauty.
