April’s Magic

through barren trees,
light shines
the strongest

Notes:

To those celebrating holidays — may you be safe and happy together or separate.

On my walk today, the afternoon light slants westward through the barren maple trees and gilds everything with the promise of spring. The workday seems shorter. Soon the greening will block the clear, golden light. April’s magic — we await the greening in that gilding light.

And if that isn’t enough magic for you or if the sun isn’t shining in your neighborhood, here’s some Langston Hughes:

April Rain Song

Let the rain kiss you
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops
Let the rain sing you a lullaby
The rain makes still pools on the sidewalk
The rain makes running pools in the gutter
The rain plays a little sleep song on our roof at night
And I love the rain.
