Poem for Peace

On the edge of a knife,
words sustain my life,
address
my stress
and lessen household strife.

Notes: This form of poem is a limerick. As social distance, scary headlines, and strangers wearing masks trigger stress and anger in people around us, sustaining peace is even more important. The rules of civility need cultivation. Be gentle, be kind, be safe.

  1. Oh peace! What a wonderful thing something that is hard to find today, especially during this time. But I found a scripture that promises is peace, here on earth. At Psalms 37:11 it says: “But the meek will possess the earth,And they will find exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.” What do you think about this?

    • A great Poem for Peace to add here. Thanks. I’ll add Romans 12:18: “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.” And Psalm 34:14: “Turn from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it.” I think this is a journey we are on, rather than a destination reached. We always have to be trying to achieve peace. The moment we think we have it, it slips away.

    • Thanks, Beth. You, too. I scheduled this before the George Floyd protests. Then the post published, and I could see that it might be taken to mean I disapprove of the protests, which I don’t. The looting and buildings being burned down are upsetting, though.

  3. Thanks for sharing, Brenda
My contribution is a quote from John Lennon:
“PEACE IS NOT SOMETHING YOU WISH FOR; IT’S SOMETHING YOU MAKE, SOMETHING YOU DO , SOMETHING YOU ARE, AND SOMETHING YOU GIVE AWAY.”
    All the best,
    Hanna
