my daughter’s
every smile is
sunshine

Notes: My boys might be jealous, but here is a love note to my youngest, our little sunshine. If we have spirit flowers, not just spirit animals, then my daughter’s would surely be the yellow dahlia. A fitting topic for the Winter Solstice. What would your spirit flower be and why?
Happy Poetry Friday! Thanks to Buffy Silverman, a wonderful nature poet, for hosting!

I’ll take zinnia — hardy and colorful, feeding the late summer butterflies, inviting the monarchs to come to the milkweed.

I love the zinnia, too. And it like to come inside in the winter, just like me.

My daughter’s smile is sunshine, as well…but I’d still love to see some flowers outside right now!

How special your poem is, and goes so well with the gorgeous yellow dahlia, I think… I used to call my daughter my sunflower and still do sometimes–that’s what she reminds me of. My spirit flower is a toss up between a sunflower and the flower from a milkweed plant, which is oh so sweet. Happy Holidays to you and your family Brenda!

Such a sweet poem to capture a sweet smile. Hmmm… I guess Oenothera? (Evening primrose–blooming when no one is watching, then closing up in the light of a crowd.)

My daughter took a cutting of a candy cane striped begonia and rooted it inside. Now it’s enormous and flowering on her window sill. I didn’t know they do that. Begonias are lovely.

They are reborn in rain and spring sunshine. Who doesn’t have a special awe of the dandelion in all its forms, from its long tap root to its head of white fluff.
