As my to-do lists lengthen
and a whale of wrapping awaits,
I’m thankful for a moment
to focus
on asters in autumn.

Notes: As Tabatha Yeatts put it, the holiday hubbub has started, but it’s all the more important to find a quiet moment to reflect on beauty that recurs every year, without a bit of effort on my part. Happy Poetry Friday and thanks to Elizabeth Steinglass for hosting!
Focusing on asters…what a lovely thought!

I love the way the asters linger after the frost. They remind us of summer and give us hope for spring!

Ah. yes. The whale of wrapping. You got it, sista! I wish that part was more fun for me than it is. I need to turn on some good netflix shows and grab some cocoa. These asters are so perfectly accompanied by your poetry. Are they encased in ice? They look like it in the photo.

If I remember right, it had just rained or was raining when I took that one. They had such sparkle, despite the gray skies. This was probably several weeks ago now. The time goes by so fast.

Thanks for these lovely asters that remind me of stars–maybe I’ll dream about them. Good luck with that wrapping, and thanks for the reflective “moment.” BTW those lines are very, very long–my next package may go out priority mail–with no line…

I had to wait for a parking place today. Just to to park took forever…. This time of year is nuts.

Leave it to you to do everything — all the wrapping and also the poetic pausing!

Thanks for the chance to pause and appreciate those beautiful asters. Yes, the hubbub has started. Just spent the last 3 days gift wrapping stuff and packing up for shipping. Sigh.

Our asters are long gone, but I still love the thought of taking a quiet moment to focus on beauty. I’m watching snow flurries fly past my window. A huge red-tailed hawk just landed and took off again–and we live in the city!

The hawks around me love when people try to let their chicken free range…

A whale of wrapping — I hear you! Lovely to see these flowers today and read your poem, Brenda. I needed the splash of color and sound — “asters in autumn.”
