Notes: Thanks to Tabatha Yeatts for sending me this lovely pick-me-up prize, a kintsugi heart pin. A reminder than no matter how many mistakes, how many broken pieces and cracks, you are still beautiful. The poem was published by Tabatha in April. If you’re interested in my poetry, you can find a few poems in Imperfect: Poems About Mistakes: An Anthology for Middle Schoolers. Click on the link and check it out. I won’t make a dime, but it’s well worth reading, whether or not you’re a middle schooler. After all, who hasn’t made a mistake? And it’s an especially good back-to-school present.
Happy Poetry Friday and thanks to Robyn Hood Black at Life on the Deckle Edge for hosting. Robyn is a haiku poet and all-around lovely person. If you’re a word nerd like me, you might wonder what “Deckle Edge” might be (or maybe you already know). I had to look it up, and it’s an untrimmed edge of handmade paper. I’d been thinking it would be an irregular coastline because Robyn lives near the ocean (if memory hasn’t failed me).
Tabatha is, herself, an imperfect star who surprises, isn’t she? It’s a beautiful heart pin for a beautiful poet such as yourself, Brenda. 🙂

Beautiful gifts, all around. The Anthology should be in every classroom for those middle-schoolers.

Thanks for stopping by, Linda. I’ll come by soon. I’ve spent the morning doing research instead of catching up.

Perfectly lovely poem Brenda, from the “Imperfect stars.” ‘and that pin is wonderful–I think my daughter would love it too. I liked your “edgy prose” comment to Robyn. Enjoy the weekend!

We can all use a little edgy prose now and then. Happy Labor Day!

Thanks, Carol. Sometimes the more you cut away, the more the warmth and music is gone, but occasionally, you find a gem.

Such a wonderful book – and concept! Mistakes love company, don’t they? Or, mistake-makers, like all of us! Thanks for sharing .
I LOVE your comparison of the coastline (yes – you remember correctly!) to a deckle edge. I liked that phrase because I love deckle edges in books AND in art papers, and I always seem to be on the edge with deadlines and such. ;0) Happy Long Weekend!

Now you just need to write edgy prose, and you’ll have circled the word entirely! 🙂

IKR?! I feel sad for how many words and phrases are in danger of disappearing.
