I spied some peonies in Adelaide – though I didn’t get as close to them as you obviously did! 🙂 (We don’t get peonies, and I think it was probably this very blog where I first discovered them…)

Yes, I remember you commenting on that. They don’t last long, but when they open, it’s like a miracle. From a golf-ball sized bud, you get a salad plate sized bloom. I have some planted in my yard, and each spring, their blooms put my azaleas in the shade. 🙂

I am amazed every year. For their several days of bloom, they put the roses to shame, but in such an elegant, lady-like way. 😉

What a stunning pairing of photo and words….I literally gasped as I opened up this page. That peony is so perfect it looks fake! lol. Baby’s skin…..and the scent. You’ve taken me on a journey in so few words. Brava!

Thanks, Linda. It was daunting to write words for such a glorious blooms, actually. I kept writing and scrapping, revising and sighing. But then, something finally clicked.

Peonies are such dramatic flowers–in scent and appearance. Your picture is gorgeous and I love all those “s” sounds in your poem. Scalloped is a great word to use here!
