firecracker red roses
bring back sangria-sweetened
hot afternoons
Copyright 2018 Brenda Davis Harsham
Notes: Yesterday, we celebrated July 4th at a neighbor’s blowout party, with BBQ, salads, sangria, minty Pimms cocktails, lemonade and bonhomie, despite the paint-blistering heat. Thanks to David, Julie and all their other guests. The heat is forecast to break tomorrow with thundershowers and much-needed rain. Yay! Hope you have a magical rest of the week.
Happy Poetry Friday tomorrow and thanks to the Miss Rumphius Effect for hosting!
GREAT POST! 👌

Love the image poem with thoughts of a 4th of July celebration, Brenda. Can you please package that for my summer gallery-almost finished designing the Sense-sational Spring Gallery.

Thanks, Carol. I’ll see if I can manage it. 🙂

Oh, I just enjoyed some sangria the other day–first time in ages! I love your inspired use of it as an adjective! I’m so sorry to hear about your continuing eye problems and wish you the best! Take care!

Gorgeous roses, Brenda! We need rain too, it hasn’t be so hot and dry for years and years.
So sorry to read about your eyes. We keep our fingers crossed for the surgery!
Love and hugs to you from Cley. Xx

Thanks, Dina. I wish I knew what it was, then I could research it. But we don’t yet know what it is. I hope you get some rain, too. Dark clouds are rolling in, and my husband is mowing before the rain arrives.

I was lucky that a cloudy moment came along just as they were at their most full and lush. Although the photo makes it look sunny, it wasn’t. 🙂

Well, it was a well caught moment. Flowers in the summer almost make me forget about bugs. Almost. That’s why pictures are so welcome.

Even my picture has a bug in it. LOL

Nice verse – well photographed roses – not easy

Yes, usually red oversaturates and looks wrong, doesn’t it? I find a cloudy day is the best time for photographing red flowers.

Wow, love those “firecracker red roses” both in the poem and your pic! Sounds like you had a grand fourth. Hope your eyes are a bit better and the rains move on in …

I need eye surgery, sadly. I’m hoping it’s not an incurable disease, as least. 😉

Oh I’m so sorry, I hope it isn’t either. Have you scheduled it already?

The scheduler hasn’t called, but the decision has been made. I’m hoping to take care of it in mid-August. The school year is so busy and full of obligations. Thanks for asking. XOXO

Sadly, I’m going to be scheduling surgery on my eye. Possibly for mid-August. *sighing* Thanks for remembering.

a wonderful day – p.s. what is a minty pimms?

A minty pimms was a friend’s concoction. Pimms is a British liquor. I didn’t try one. I thought it looked very cool, though.
