Daffodil Runes

Notes: Look no farther for signs of spring. New England is burgeoning with them. I post about daffodils every spring. Here’s a poem from my current reverie, seeing the classic shape as a letter meaning spring, similar to the letter “i”, but blooming. Happy Poetry Friday and thanks to Margaret Simon at Reflections on the Teche for hosting. A bonus daffodil poem below:

Poetry Friday Heron

I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze.
Continuous as the stars that shine
And twinkle on the milky way,
They stretched in never-ending line
Along the margin of a bay:
Ten thousand saw I at a glance,
Tossing their heads in sprightly dance.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils.

  11. Our daffodils have come and gone, but I do so look forward to them each spring. I’m glad to get a peek at yours this week and love “runes of spring.”

  12. I used to live near a small town in middle Tennessee called, Bell Buckle. Every spring they held a Daffodil Festival. The road leading into town was lined with thousands of yellow daffodil first planted by the town’s founder. It is a lovely, artist community. Seeing all these lovely flowers is making me homesick.

  18. Ours have said their goodbyes, but I took a similar pic earlier. I love your idea of ‘runes’, which will stay in my memory, Brenda. They are spring’s opening salvo, aren’t they?

  25. Those are beautiful daffodils. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that variety before. They are such a lovely springtime sight, aren’t they? The Wordsworth poem has always been a favorite of mine. Thanks for a double daffodilicious springtime treat.
