Groundhogs amble past brambles.
Winter torpor adds a weighty waddle
to their dandelion waltz.
A grumpy rabbit nibbles clover
and twitches as a staccato wind
showers him in pink petals.
Woodpecker’s tympani tapping
echoes from pine to spruce.
A cat lifts one paw, conducting.
The sun draws mist like applause
from yesterday’s icy puddles.
In the hush, a butterfly egg cracks.
Once the symphony has begun,
even the silence is undone.

Notes: I’m hearing spring notes on the fluting wind. Surely the snow is past. Time for winter to take a bow and retire. Happy Earth Day! This year, Earth Day organizers are promoting the reduction of plastics. I pledge to use less bottled water.
I was so interested to read yesterday, Brenda, that scientists have engineered a plastic eating enzyme, hopefully, to assist with all the plastic waste we humans have created… Here’s hoping!

Let’s hope it doesn’t have any awful side effects! And that the waste isn’t worse. 🙂 Meanwhile, I plan to wash out and reuse bread bags.

We’ve started to use reusable cloth bags for our shopping (bought for this purpose). The major supermarkets here in Australia will be withdrawing the plastic bags from July onwards. I believe it’s a great first step!

We’ve been using reusable bags for some time, but I still forget occasionally. Trying harder. There’s still produce in plastic bags that I then use for trash at home. Can’t think how to avoid that. But I can wash and reuse bags that contained bread…

Yes, so much comes in plastic bags. Hopefully, manufacturers will take up the challenge and change their packaging to be more Earth friendly. What I do rather like is that this is becoming a conversation; that has to be a great beginning, too!

The more people talking about it, the more likely we are to make change. Thanks for adding your words. I washed out a ziplock this morning. 🙂

Great post, Brenda! 🙂
We recycle all of our plastic and fill up reusable gallons of water (at Walmart) for our drinking water.

We use stainless steel water bottles and glass leftover dishes as much as we can. We filter our water. I aim to use less bags, less fleece, less packaged food.
