Too-large slippers clomp
down the stairs.
Giggles and gasps
harmonize with crinkling
jelly bean bags and
foil-wrapped bunnies.
The loud quiet
lifts me like a spell cast
by the magic wand of
childhood.
Notes: Happy Easter! This poem was partly inspired by a few lines of Marjory Wentworth’s where simple things become “magic. It’s the way/ your pen becomes a wand in your hand….” From How Billy Collins Writes a Poem in Out of Wonder: Poems Celebrating Poets by Kwame Alexander with Chris Colderley and Marjory Wentworth, illustrated by Ekua Holmes, Candlewick Press, 2017.
Happy Poetry Friday and thanks to Heidi at My Juicy Little Universe for hosting!
Such a delightful scene! Happy Easter!

Oh – and Easter blessings to your family. We had our first empty nest Easter ( just slipped into Monday) so no egg hunts, or crinkling or giggles. #bittersweet

That is bittersweet. I will miss those days, too. This is the first year that only my 9-year-old daughter wants to color eggs. My 14- and 16-year-olds want deviled eggs. My heart hurts, just a little.

I think we all missed our family Easter – and the Easter egg hunt. (My Singapore son missed Easter eggs fullstop. None to be found when he went hunting in stores, yesterday.)

My kids stuffed themselves with chocolate. And grinned all day.

Thanks! I do believe the bunny has come by, and I’m waiting for the too-loud slippers. Any minute now. 🙂

That loud quiet…..oh, you’ve brought up some sharp memories. Thank you. I’m trying to keep childhood alive in my house….but, my teens really don’t care about finding eggs or foil wrapped bunnies. It’s always a treat to bump into someone that has the wonder of the memories that I do. Thanks for the visit today!

My pleasure. My teen told me he’s only in it for the chocolate. But I think he likes seeing the wonder of my nine year old as much as I do. 🙂

So sweet. Childhood magic. Happy Easter to you. If the weather permits our grandkids will be enjoying the family Easter egg hunt after we have birthday cake for three grandsons who had birthdays this past week.

YUCK! We can suffer together then! Did I mention it’s my last shift at this place? My job being eliminated-going to go onto Unemployment…toward Disability. Health has gotten worse–so wasn’t offered the next site–too many stairs and too much standing and walking! Oh well…on to a new future–0still will be blogging, though! 🙂

I hadn’t heard that. I’m sorry to hear about your health getting worse and that it affected your ability to work. Perhaps without the work, you can focus more on your writing and getting your health back. Blessings.

Hope so…my Doctor has been after me for several years to get on Disability. I think I’m ready! Maybe now is a good time to collate for a book or two!

Such a magical poem Brenda, you’ve wisked me away! I love this ending, “a spell cast
by the magic wand of
childhood.”
Happy Spring–it’s coming I know it is because a robin told me so…
And Happy National Poetry Writing Month!
