the forest’s green heart
taps an icy morse code,
calling the sun

Notes: Still arctic here in New England, now that we’ve feted and embraced the New Year. The morning light comes earlier. We are that much closer to Spring. Hope everyone is warm and snug.
sawing = saying oops! 😊

I thought you were referencing an old saw. 🙂 In a clever way. No worries. The meaning shone through.

Well, this sounds like you, who are of a generous spirit, giving me credit for something clever. 😊 Thank you, Brenda.

I have a few pictures of ice droplets on evergreen branches, too! I just haven’t decided how to write about them without sawing crystal or jewels. Yours is a true original, Brenda!

They do look like crystal and jewels. I suppose that’s why it’s an old saw. I saw the beauty right away, but it took me a lot longer to find the right words. It was worth the wait, I think. XOXO

As a Canadian living through winter, this image and poem hold a lot a lot of meaning!

It’s been icy here, but we’re in a thaw. I love a good thaw.

Well done, Brenda! I’m inferring a note of frantic desperation in that morse code message! The bitter cold is a bit much these days–We’re going to be lucky if the high is above 0˚F on Saturday! Sorry to hear about all the heating and plumbing problems your way. We’re crossing our fingers that the incoming storm tomorrow doesn’t bring the high winds (and possible power outages) they’re predicting. Under blizzard warning here…

Here, too. I’m hoping we don’t lose our power, too. It will be bitter cold if we do. At least my neighbors have water flowing again.

It looks beautiful but I hope the morse code call for sun is heard.

Surprising how cold it got, how fast. More snow is forecast. The real problem is all the burst and frozen pipes. My neighbors have no water at all. Lots of people have no heat. This isn’t the time of year where no heat is safe.

I love the “glass covered” pine needles. I know they are bad for the little needles, I do like the glass look. Keep warm yourself!

Luckily the ice doesn’t cling for very long. I thought it made a beautiful photo.

I’m in the south and we are in a very unusually prolonged deep freeze. It sucks and I hate it vehemently. A few days is normal, but not weeks of it. Excited though the days are longer. Looking at my spring flower catalogs helps me imagine chirping birds and lots of color.

Yes, February is usually the month when I’m tired of winter. But this year, I was tired of it before January!

Beautiful poem and image. I do love the ice as long as I don’t have to drive!

I love it when it doesn’t coat the sidewalks and lie in black patches on the roads.

Yep, as cool as it gets. Kids had to walk to the bus in temps well below zero this morning.

We are arctic. Spring can’t get here soon enough. I swear, if the temperature gets to 34 people will be wearing shorts and tank tops. It will seem like summer. Lovely poem.

Pipes have burst, people are without heat, temps are arctic, and my neighbors are showering here. No water? Seriously? It’s not pretty except in photographs.
