The Last Sunset

afternoon,
icy winds rake the sand smooth
under sorbet skies

Notes: Happy Nearly New Year! Stay warm! (Unless you’re in the tropics, in which case, don’t brag, as the rest of us shiver and hunker indoors.) The cold snap gave my children ample opportunity to destroy me in Munchkin Zombie Deluxe. (Yum! Brains!)  🙂 I’m also reading Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons, and it’s a comic delight. In the book, the farm has this enchanting address: “Judith Starkadder, Cold Comfort Farm, Howling, SUSSEX.” Hilarious. I haven’t finished my Christmas chocolates yet. I hope whatever you’re doing, you’re enjoying it quite as much as I am.

Happy Poetry Friday! Thanks to Heidi at MyJuicyLittleUniverse for hosting!

  2. Oooh! I wish I could click my heals and be there for that sunset. It’s so dreary and damp here on the ridge. I have a touch of cabin fever! I will make a New Year’s wish for warmer days to come. Wishing you a Happy New Year, Brenda!

  3. Near the 28 ° N Latitude, “sorbet skies” are so frequent that when I see a beautiful picture it reminds me to actually see the sunset or sunrise while sitting or standing until the colors dissipate.

  4. I’m hunkered in, but perhaps not quite as cold as others in the east, Brenda. I’m often taking pics of sunsets, will now remember your “sorbet skies”. Happy New Year!

  5. Perfect haiku, Brenda–just one word to start, all specific and broad, carries the atmosphere strongly. My son keeps telling me that Munchkin is maybe too complicated for my aging brain but you give me hope. Wishing you all good things in 2018!

    • Heidi, that is funny. My kids gang up on me because they have noticed I was tending to win. LOL I heard them playing it, and I thought it was hilarious. You should give it a try. All good things to you and yours in 2018, too!

  6. “sorbet skies” — PERFECTION!! And yes I am enjoying myself quite as much as you are, albeit without children and video games! (Or maybe BECAUSE OF no children and video games!!)

  8. I see you’re braving the cold. Your sorbet sky is warming the beach but I can only imagine what I would find at the Atlantic Ocean beaches around here. I am not sure if the Polar Bear Plunge is really going to happen this new year. Happy New Year, Brenda.

  9. Such a delightful book, still haven’t seen the film, though!

Brrrrrrr…Its still chilly as all anything here in Raincity, Canada, but the recent cold snap you guys have been having in the States has been a good reminder for me not to complain too much, because it could always be colder! 😉

  10. I hope you have a wonderful New Year too! I’ve been hanging with family most of the holidays, plus working between Christmas and New Years. I am looking forward to playing games with my grandson NYE, and hope to get a kick in the butt towards finishing my book outline. YOU stay warm too! Impossible here in the Midwest for a while…

  12. Stunning photo! I love those active winds raking the sand smooth–well, not so much IRL (a wee bit chilly to be enjoying any sort of wind!), but in my imagination. Stay warm and enjoy the time with your family. Wishing you a wonderful start to the New Year!
