Another of my poems was published by Silver Birch Press for their “If I” series. Yay! Thanks, Melanie!

by Brenda Davis Harsham

If I remembered my
dreams,
I’d have great stories
with ambushes and
car chases through
city streets. I’d easily
evade cross-dressing
grandma clowns
and black-feathered
ballerinas.
I’d be chased
by giant grasshoppers.
I’d get away
in the nick of time.
I’d soar over over treetops
in a hot air balloon.
I’d solve impossible
theorems.
I’d invent a spaceship
or stow away in one.
I’d speak Spanish,
know the names of
all the stars,
and birds would take
seeds right from my hands.
Instead, I sleep as deep
as the Mariana Trench,
and if I swim with lantern fish,
dine on sea cucumber
or comb my hair with jellyfish,
I will never remember
or wake to tell the tale.

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR: I’m fascinated by the Mariana Trench

  1. You have the best… very best imagination!
Your poem reveals your love of life, and that you are actually a super hero. You could be the best mom, ever!
Now, if I could just get rescued from that darn dream bridge that I keep getting stuck on. 😉

  2. Congratulations for this lovely, extra special poem and such a nice professional photograph, Brenda.
I am sure my dreams are chock full of many detective elements since every night I read at least 10 -15 pages of a mystery! I liked your interesting “band of characters!”

  3. I just recently started dreaming again. When my soul was in turmoil, for about three years, I couldn’t dream. I’m back to dreaming. Yay! A good sign of healing of the heart. Funny how dreams have a lot to do with your subconscious world trying to battle your reality. Happy dreaming, my friend.
