Rose Silk

IMG_3776

Late one evening,
I knit the silk
of new roses
into the floss
of thistle blooms
and the down
of milkweed seed,
and I have wings.
I fly into dreams
where fairies
dance in stone circles,
bears hug trees, and
lambs gambol with wolves.
Where tigers ride
flying carpets,
rainbows pave streets
and princesses are
young and beautiful
forever.
Morning dew dyes
my wings silver.
I fly to Asgard
where Thor sends
thunder to light
dark clouds.
Odin’s raven
arranges jet beads
into a crown
than feels heavy as
cast iron.
Freya lends me
one shining hair
to slide down, down, down
to my soft bed.
I wake and sorrow
for dreams spent.
I’m a dream spendthrift
adrift in the spinning world
with only roses to
ground me.

Note: Asgard is Odin’s home in Viking Mythology. Thor is the son of Odin and his wife, Freya. Have you ever wondered why dreams are so much more vivid and exciting than life at times? I hope you had a lovely holiday weekend if you are in the US, and if you aren’t, I hope you are having a lovely week, full of magic.

  1. Dreamy indeed, this is wonderful!! ♥ 🙂 It is odd how dreams seem more vivid than real life. I’ve had some dreams that felt more real than reality. I don’t think we have even begun to understand the reason for dreams yet.

  2. Such spectacular dreams with fullness of nature and mythology are ones forever cherished. I like your humor shown in being a “spendthrift” of dreams, Brenda.
I think dreams are important for our restfulness since escape into lovely places with rainbow streets help us wake up feeling renewed and hopeful. ❤
