Autumn sunset
blooms amber,
glows blood orange,
and lingers
in sky and treetop.
Wild dogwood berries
mix with acorns
and crabapples.
They snap underfoot
and perfume the air.
Everywhere color
fades to darkness.
No! Linger longer,
color wake and sky glow,
cast this fairy spell,
make sunset lengthen
until dark night
is the longest
of the year.

Note: Winter’s coming, but we’ve had a long, delicious fall with a universe of color. I meant this post for this morning, but life intervened, and my kids needed me. Plus, I have a plain old ordinary run of the mill horrible cold. So I’m late posting, but I want to dedicate this post to MM and BB, who’ve had a hard week, but still find time for beauty, magic, love and Oklahoma sunsets. Also, it may be too late, but this is also my post for Poetry Friday, this week hosted thanks to Buffy Silverman at Buffy’s Blog. Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
This is poem is very scenic and has a warm magical feeling to it! n v n

Gotcha! I figured it was an alternate, but I couldn’t think what. 🙂

The way it built upward in mood, as the lovely words expressed, really lifted my spirits, Brenda. The perfume of those 3 forms of nature, berries, crabapple and acorns sounds tantalizing. 🙂
The color waking and sun glowing were perfect way to describe an Autumn sunset. Take care and hope this will be it for awhile. Your poor body has been under siege. . . 😦

The cold has wiped me out. I haven’t been this sick from a cold in years. No energy. But I have to get better soon. It’s been over a week now. Thanks for your kind words about my poem. XOXO

These are my favorite lines:
No! Linger longer,
color wake and sky glow,
Other colors wake in the dark, I guess!

Yes, the night has different colors and new mysteries. That’s a good point.

I like that wish…. I think we have all experienced this sort of imperious feeling, as we notice that times goes by and we can´t stop it, despite all our vain attempt… I think your poem is beautifully penned and catches the sense of the ephemeral beauty that surrounds us…
Sending love and best wishes, dear Ben… Aquileana💫 😀

Thanks, Aquileana. I don’t think we should go quietly into the night, in this case, winter’s night. 🙂 At least, we should go sprinkling magic about us liberally. Have a great week!

I wish autumn would ‘linger longer’ too. The color has left, although we’ve had cold, then warmth, then cold again. Love your poem, maybe the last one to read about this ‘universe of color’.

I hope you feel better soon! Simply Saline works wonders for sinuses and opening up the breathing passages…spoken from someone who always gets a cold, and has sinus issues when the barometer drops. Sigh!
The poem is lovely!
