Once I sat upon a promontory,
And heard a mermaid on a dolphin’s back
Uttering such dulcet and harmonious breath
That the rude sea grew civil at her song
And certain stars shot madly from their spheres,
To hear the sea-maid’s music.

So lovely, Brenda. Stars reacting to the mermaids song sounds almost like the Sirens effect upon ships passing them. Strange magic and I will always be entranced by the night’s sky with its diamonds. 🙂

Wasn’t this a lovely bit? Somehow it goes by me so fast when I see it performed. Reading it, I get to linger over each word choice. It’s rich with such great language.

AnElephantCant sit on a dolphin
The poor beastie would feel quite betrayed
But he tells you the truth
Gadzooks and forsooth
AnElephant loves a Mermaid

That makes a change,
With risk of derange,
To love a mermaid
Entwined in azure and jade.
Skin with pearly glow
And necklace of roe,
She enchants, bewitches
Sews up lovers with shell stitches.
Don’t fall for her snare
Poor Beastie beware:
Under all that seaweed,
Is a stone heart without care.
Written just for you, AnElephant. Though if anyone can prevail, you can. 🙂
