Oak leaf rimed,
Bleached winter white,
Stark skeleton aglow.
A bit of starlight,
Its light grown white,
A transient in the universe,
The writing is plain:
An early calling card
Of Lady Spring’s visit.
Perhaps I’ll pour the tea,
Remembering heat,
Wishing for sunlight.

Note: I’ll lift my teacup in a toast to Lady Spring, whose velvety green cloak will swirl around us any day. And I’ll dedicate this ghostly post to Poetry Friday, this week hosted by a wonderful children’s poet, Amy Ludwig VanDerwater, at her blog, The Poem Farm. It’s National Poetry Month, and the kidlitosphere is lit by the radiance of many special events, some listed by Jama, the Poetry Potentate. If you like poetry, you can dine until sated this month!
Wow! That leaf is such a symbol of what was and a whisper of what will be again. I raise a cup of tea to you, Brenda, for warmth and friendship. Happy Monday!

Poor little bleached leaf – still in one piece though! Is it a real leaf? It looks like it’s made of material?
I love the idea of pouring tea and waiting for sunlight. Hopefully you won’t have to drink too much hot tea, before you know it you’ll need to ice it!! 😀

It was a real leaf lying on the sidewalk. It did have a surpassing texture on the photo, didn’t it? It’s not exactly warm today, but the sun is shining! And I did have ice in my tea. LOL

True! The photo was a of a real leaf laying on the sidewalk, inches from a bank of ice. I think it had been buried in the ice for weeks.

Happy holiday and thank you for taking the time to read my post. I like yours as well. A toast then, to family, friends, love, nature and other blooming things.

I love the poem (“rimed”), but I also love the photo — how you get a glimpse of the whole (tree) in the part (leaf skeleton).

Thanks, I resonated with that leaf. I felt just as washed out and colorless by this winter! 🙂

A cup of tea always makes life better. We had a tiny bit of sun today, but it was warm. Spring will be here soon!

Yeah, spring! We have a lot less snow after a few warmer days.

What strange markings on the leaf. Today I have been collecting the first of the autumn leaves. Love their rich colours. Wishing you spring loveliness and warmth.

Nothing is prettier than the autumn leaves. Unless it’s a field of wildflowers. 🙂 So much beauty in nature that just comes and goes.

Indeed. Sadly I don’t get to see many fields of wildflowers.

They are disappearing. I once saw a ruin in Maine where only the heavy stone foundation remained, but pink cottage roses still bloomed on either side of the front door. And the rudbeckia and echinacea had spread all over the field, which ran down to the ocean. It haunts me.

My friend who walks with looked at me so oddly when I wanted to take a picture of it. I told her, it looks as pale and white as I feel, and the bitter wind was howling. She laughed and protested no more.
