Pawn lost at the dawn,
Blacks carrion crows
Checkmate at the close,
Victory now seems small:
King mourns White Queen’s fall.
Perhaps the price of war
Is too high after all.

Note: The game of chess is a bloodless battle to the eventual doom of an opponent. Do you play? Are you ruthless? Are you willing to sacrifice your queen?
Clever poem.. and no I only played against a computer and I didn’t have a clue what I was doing… Though I did win once.. Don’t as me how?? LOL…

LOL It’s a difficult game, and I’m no master. 🙂 My hubby is hard to beat anyway.

It wouldn’t be so bad if I could have the rules explained.. but the computer isn’t the best of teachers 🙂

It’s a difficult game, requiring study, is my understanding. My hubby is the type to read books on the subject. 🙂 I know the moves, but thinking more than four or five moves ahead is beyond me. 🙂

Your verses would go well among the script of an english, Victorian movie… Maybe a film based on a novel by Jane Austen!~

I really liked this, Brenda. The colors of the chess game come into play but the meaning of the world takes it to another dimension. Wishing for peace and no more real checkmates!

Yes, no one wins in real-world checkmates.

Your poem reminds me of a Greek tragedy. There’s always a price, there’s always a price.
Anyway, I play rudimentary chess. I know how to move the pieces. That’s all. The rare times I played, I always protected the queen, as best as I could.

I am no grand master either, but I have a few moves. LOL And yes, lately, since the terrorism in Paris, the price has been on my mind.
