Note: I have been working on braiding this thyme wreath, inspired by a post by Stacey of Down to Earth Digs. Although not finished, it has made my kitchen smell of summer. I plan to tie it with ribbon and hang it among my pottery. Thanks for the great idea, Stacey!!

That is very, very cool. How come no one ever told me about this before? Do I have to be Jewish? Because no offence or anything meant, but I could probably do Jewish, if I had some help.

You just need a menorah, and then you light a helper candle and one main candle for each night. It’s a lovely tradition. It celebrates one of the bible stories where a miracle allowed the lamp oil to last eight nights.

It is lovely, and it smells wonderful. I might have to make it a yearly tradition. It was so easy to braid it, too, and it all hangs together now without extra support or tying. Just one ribbon at the top.

You got that part right! I am so wanting and believing in all of that with you! I just heard from my pink friend JM. She is in the process of selling her home and moving up to your area. Well close anyway to NH. She is selling her pink house but I’m sure she will find a new pink one for sure!

Happy Hanukkah;) I just lit my candles. A bit after the sundown deadline but #1 Chicago has seen zero sunshine in I have no idea how many days and #2 I was at my son’s HS bowling team match. I told him I was going to bring the menorah to the bowling alley – I received a rather odd look. Your menorah is lovely and your wreath is precious. I use two laminated mats the boys made when they were in preschool. Tomorrow I will post a picture. But tonight, I want to admire yours:)

I will look forward to seeing your picture. I had fun making the wreath (and stuck the hubby with the dishes). LOL We don’t really follow too many rules or traditions. We just like to celebrate most of December if we can swing it. It would otherwise be a dark month.

I am a bit of a mutt. Grew up with both the tree and menorah but the menorah holds a very place in my heart. My mother loved it – she loved the light and she knew the prayers by heart. My menorah was my grandfather’s, which became hers and now belongs to me. It is a little bent (came from Russia) and I never remove the old wax. I like looking at it. I agree, this month could really use some light:)

I embrace all the light-giving holidays, but most days I don’t know what I am. I just try to be full of light these days and to find external sources on dark days. Mutts are my favorite! 🙂 Woof!
