Note: This poem is a lantern poem (also spelled lanterne), a Japanese form, in the shape of a lantern, with five lines and a syllable count of 1, 2, 3, 4, 1.
It is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.
We missed out on the autumn colours this year – we had a very early spring and a dry summer (for us, that’s – it only rained every other day) – so when the winds started early, it stripped all the leaves of the trees before they had a chance to change colour. Loved the lantern!

I’ve never seen the trees lose their leaves before changing here. And I’ve never seen that much rain! Wow!

Yes we have all kinds of weather – as long as it’s raining.

I spent yesterday and today raking, blowing, gathering and cleaning leaves out of out gutters. I have to say, this is the best leaf I’ve seen. I love the form of this poem.

The snow has not stayed here so far and my landlord rarely rakes…so I can see nice colourr. «he mows the lawn about once a month, so our 8 flat building is like being in the country within a city)
