We are all children together looking for answers,
Cheered by beauty, gymnasts, athletes or dancers.
We look for family, love or a release to our pain,
For food, comfort, or shelter from fear and distain.
We are all alike: blessed by every sunny day,
Then cast down by ice storms and endless gray.
At special moments, we radiate love and joy.
We must constantly renew these as things annoy.
We revel when joy comes calling, brilliant and heady.
Love comes in its own time, when we are ready.
But let the sun set on hatred and anger, push them away.
Don’t hug them tight, those hurtful deceivers get in our way.
To the ones toward whom we feel rage, take up a pen,
Write, underline, flare up like the sun, until we feel zen.

In honor of Martin Luther King Day, some of his peaceful words:
“I have decided to stick with love, hate is too great a burden to bear.”
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate, only love can do that.”
“Let no man pull you low enough to hate him.”
“We must learn to live together as brothers,
Or perish together as fools.”
“We must find an alternative to war.”
If you have not seen his “I have a dream” speech,
I encourage you to listen to it here.

How can we not love each other? It makes me sad to see children who are playing and having fun with no real knowledge of what their parents or grandparents may harbor in their personal trunk of negative thoughts. Let’s drink a cup of green tea, a sip or apple cider and pass the sippy cups of juice or milk to all and have a bucket of cookies together. ❤ hugs xoxo

Sorry, but we are in mourning here. 125,000 at least marched in Boston today, including my daughter and I.

I have been watching on TV.
We had a march here in Toronto, but I was unable to attend.
CONGRATS to you & your daughter!
I am now looking for pink hats & scarves. I will be wearing pink accents from now on, until …..
It’s like the Suffragettes in their Green, White, Violet colors. Give Women the Vote!
Now Pink…. .. Please, practice peace & ???
I’m looking for a “p” pink slogan that I can put on my scarf or hat!
I have much admiration for you, Brenda! xo

So many good slogans: peace, girl power, prosperity for all, viva la vulva. My body is not up for GRABS! I carried Diplomacy NOT Stupidity. My daughter carried Words NOT Weapons. I am deeply moved to see the pictures of marches all over the world and country. We women do not want to go back.

I don’t see how legislators can ignore the marches today, even if Trump is crazy enough to.

I think that is the point.
If legislators see & believe people are okay with trump’s plan, they will go along…. by and large.
Today gives them pause to consider they could be voted out in 2 years.

I wrote this pre-Trump, but I think it still covers a lot of the right ground. Let’s not attack each other. Let’s lay aside our differences and work toward a stable future. Let’s try to not dismantle the things that matter out of our fear.

Okay this is beautiful – I have to admit it was the photo I went to first (I love red skies) – but I adore the poem.

I also see that it’s fire (just for the record :)) I did just see the sky first until reading the poem and looking back up. Perhaps that makes me an optimist – and not just horribly unobservant?

No fire, just looks like fire.

Thanks, I’m so happy you like the photo and the poem. I wanted to write something with real effort for such a photo, and a sonnet is always real effort for me.

Thanks, we chased that sunset for half an hour, and I thought this was the best shot. It almost looked to me as if the very trees were on fire with it. It was so much more beautiful in person.

Wise words of encouragement Brenda, it’s really tough to remember that hate and anger destroy us more than they hurt the person / people we direct them at. And you’re absolutely right, picking up a pen (or a keyboard) at those moments is far more productive. This really struck my heart today as we are all obviously seething on our side of the ‘pond’ over this BBC / Jimmy Saville scandal and I spent a sleepless night with my blood boiling. Finally the light filtered through the curtains, I groan, switch on the laptop and BAM honey, you did it again! Your wise words were waiting for me – you are an absolute earth-angel and the sugar and spice in my gingerbread slice, thankyou! 🙂 x

I was just thinking about something poignant I could post in honor of MLK day, and then the talented and beautiful Brenda posted this on her blog “Friendly Fairy Tales” and I think it is more apropos and more beautiful than anything I could have thought of right now.
Here’s to Martin Luther King Jr. and to us all, who walk in his wake.
Stay Blessed
