Shall I compare thee to a summer’s bloom?
Thou art more hardy and vivid in snow.
Over charming cabbages, dark clouds loom,
Soft fall winter’s tears on curled leaf below.
Coldest days, the white sky fills with snowflakes
Their white color enhances your bolder.
The distant sun peeks, an opening makes,
Crystal sparkles enchant the beholder.
And yet, the blindness reminds of regrets,
Summer sprite and fae gardens are no more.
Gnomes and dwarves hibernate in cabbage beds,
Violet leaf consoles as we adore.
Even when we wearily shovel snow,
We are buoyed by your vibrant purple glow.

Note: Inspired by Shakespeare’s Sonnet 18 (one of my favorites), after learning one of my readers had not read Shakespeare.
Haha!! This is lovely!♥ And I recognised something about the way that poem went right from the start – very good indeed, I’m sure Shakespeare would be thrilled!! 😀

I had such fun with it! I’m glad you approve. The rhyming is not easy, but without it, I just don’t feel I’ve worked hard enough. LOL

Hi Marie, It’s funny writing a sonnet, torturing the words and syllables to fit them in the rhythm and rhyme, very satisfying in the end. 🙂 I’m glad my sonnet cheered your day. Thanks for taking the time to comment. Warmly, Brenda

You mean I didn’t invent it after all? I’m not sure either. I actually like the ring of it though. Maybe I did read it in Shakespeare all those many moons ago. Too many to remember though. Thanks Brenda.

I’ve not ready any Shakespeare myself (well not voluntarily since Year 11 English Studies)
I had to have a bit of a giggle reading through this, because I didn’t imagine EVER reading a post aka Sonnet to a Red Cabbage and enjoying it. *snorks*
I have not been drinking or taking any illicit substances. so my final call of this one is, it’s just great! lol
