Mushrooms damp, mushrooms wet,
mushroom fallen, overset.
Can I eat you or would I die?
Better be safe and leave you lie.
Fairies, sprites, elves and gnomes
Need your caps for their homes.
In darkness you bloom in your magic way
Tempting, taunting and fae.

You have reminded me I have some mushroom growing on a fallen log… time to snap that.
Though I’m not sure if I’ll ever figure out my photo program 🙂

What a great poem! Mushrooms always surprise me; seeming to come from nowhere overnight, they necessarily evoke older spirits… AND you inspired me to write a couple of my own pieces of autumn fancy over at my Fairy of Disenchantment blog! I love what you do here. ^_^

I love this, the difference between a tasty mushroom and a poisonous toadstool is a matter of appearance until consumed. Then OH! boy you know. Lovely ditty. 😉 lovely post. X

I’ve been trying to grow shiitakes, but so far no luck. The wild ones are much easier — they come and they go, but I never eat them.

🙂 We have a lot of mushrooms in the fall, when the damp, cool weather settles in.

They are not so uncommon here, but not that much of a presence in my area 😀 I guess I have to look out for them more 😀

They like trees, and we have a lot of trees. 🙂

We have concrete trees & coconut tress. I guess that makes the difference 😀

Concrete trees? As in statutes? You must be in a city then. Not as many fungi in cities maybe.

Not that much of a city, but yes, close enough to one 😀

I find more mushrooms when I walk in the woods, I go slow, I go on detours. I find I see them best when I stop walking and just look around. It’s as if they only come out in the stillness. Today I went on a detour in the woods, stopped walking and looked up. There were three amazing, huge ledges of fungus.

It feels good when you find what you are looking for. We rarely have much of the woods around here. I guess my better option is to seek for them in abandoned buildings 😀

Please enlighten me.. What is a sprite, elf and gnome?

i meant to say..What is the difference between those characters… an elf and a gnome?
LikeLike
Ah, an elf is different things to different people in different cultures. Some describe them as tiny, with wings and a connection to nature. Some have a mischievous nature. Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream involved the Fairy Queen Titania, but they were the same size as people and no wings. Some call that type of fairy the Sidhe. I could go on and on… A gnome is usually small and in a garden.
